Ok ya’ll, I’m gonna speak from my mama heart for a minute. Pixie recently graduated, and it feels like just yesterday she was our little girl. Now she’s all grown up and ready to take on the world. Growing up in our entrepreneurial home has been a big part of her journey, and I’m grateful we could give her that experience.
Pixie has learned so much along the way. From helping me hand out door prizes at paint parties to confidently speaking on stage at Dollywood, she’s learned skills that go beyond the classroom. My goal has always been to show her she can make her life whatever she wants. She just has to work for it! And even more so, I wanted her to see that work isn’t bad and can actually be fun!
What People Remember
Learning customer service is so important too. One thing I wanted Pixie to have engrained in her mind is to always give people the benefit of the doubt. Even if you’ve heard the same question 1000 times, you still answer them with patience and kindness. People don’t always remember what you do, but they do remember how you make them feel.
Our Family Motto
Our family motto, “Our bare minimum is the way most people work their hardest,” has been a guiding light for Pixie. It’s instilled in her a drive to consistently push boundaries and exceed expectations. This underscores our belief in the power of determination and continuous improvement, which has shaped her mindset for success in all endeavors.
Following in Mum’s Footsteps
Sarah, from Paint and Create with Sarah, is a member of Paint Party Headquarters and has a similar story with her kids, Alice and Jackson. Sarah started her business in 2020 with her family in mind. Her children have been involved from the start. They’ve helped out with everything from Facebook Lives to setting up and cleaning up after events. It’s been a learning experience for them, showing them the value of hard work and what it takes to run a business.
Make a Difference, Leave a Legacy
Dana, another PPHQ member, is the owner of Imagine Nation Paint. She brings her son, Cam, along to parties whenever it doesn’t interfere with school. He’s starting to understand what his mom does and why it’s important. Dana wants to leave a legacy and show her boys the importance of working hard and making a difference, and will start including her youngest son, Kason, as he gets older.
Family Goals
It’s not just about work—it’s about family too. Let’s get them involved in our business goals, whether it’s saving up for a fun night out or for a family vacation to Disney World. Let them be a part of that process! It teaches them responsibility, teamwork, how money works, and the satisfaction of achieving something together!
What is caught is more important than what’s taught!
As parents and entrepreneurs, we have a unique opportunity to shape our kids’ futures. By sharing our business journey with them, we’re not just teaching skills—we’re instilling values that will guide them for life. Whether it’s a passion for entrepreneurship or the importance of perseverance, these lessons will stay with them long after they leave the nest. But no matter what, we must lead by example!
As I reflect, I see that raising an entrepreneurial family isn’t just about preparing them for a job—it’s about empowering them to seize opportunities. It helps them to overcome challenges and to make a positive impact. As Pixie begins her own journey, I’m confident the lessons she’s learned will serve her well, just as well as for you as you teach yours!
Together, we’re shaping a generation of future leaders and innovators, one lesson at a time. How do you like to get your family involved in your goals and business?
