Do you want to get better at Mixed Media?
I have found that every time I create an art project I understand a little more about mixed media and the limitless abilities it has!
So, here’s my newest art project! I created a younger version of Frida Kahlo. The reason I put the bird on her head is because I see so many creations of Frida with all flowers on her head. Also, some of my students often ask about her “unibrow”. Frida said she thought it looked like a bird in flight and loved it so that is why it was always there. The bird takes the place of the flowers, but still adds so much color to the painting.
Frida is SO INSPIRING! She was a Mexican painter best known for self portraits, but what I love about her is her determination. When she was only 18 she was in a major bus accident where she had to be in a full body cast for three months! She had over 35 operations as a result of the accident.
While she was in a full body cast Frida began to paint. Mostly self portraits because she was always alone and felt she knew that subject best. Her mom had a special easel made so she could paint while laying in bed.
NOW THAT IS DETERMINATION!
Also, I wanted to share a tip about cardboard. For the necklace I used a piece of cardboard from an old box and cut out a heart. Using Gold spray paint from Wal-mart I sprayed the front side only to make it metallic gold. I also used some old string I had in my art studio and sprayed it gold as well. The string was a little harder to spray. It kept moving everywhere, but I got most of it the color I wanted.
After the necklace pieces were dry, I used a hot glue gun and added the string and heart pendant to give it more of a mixed media look.
YOU CAN BE AN ARTIST TOO!
Do you want to create an art piece every month?
Do you want to be successful at being creative, but not sure how?
