I have a paint party coming up and I need to PREPARE! So, off to Michaels Arts & Crafts I go to pick up all the necessities. As a general rule I always treat myself to Starbucks on the way to the store. This way I’m awake and ready to do some paint party shopping. Now, there are better times of the year to buy supplies and I of course have some favorites.

Best time of year to buy supplies

The best time of year to buy supplies is around a holiday or when a holiday is coming up! I also always get my supplies when they are on sale.  Never pay full price. You can watch the ads from Michaels Arts & Crafts and even Hobby Lobby to see when they put canvases, paint, easels and brushes on sale.

Canvases and Easels

I love the Artists Loft brand at Michaels Arts & Crafts for canvases and easels. Today I got a 5 pack of 16 x 20 canvases for $10.99, that’s about $2.20 per canvas. I basically clear them out of the 16 x 20 canvases when they are on sale. If I have a kids paint party coming up I would get some of the smaller canvases as well. Now the easels were not on sale, $19.99 regular price. I’vez only ever purchased them when they are on sale.

Paint and Brushes

You all know I love DecoArt Americana acrylic paint but that doesn’t mean I won’t buy another brand. When I first started my paint party business, I used the cheapest acrylic paint I could find. Also, you aren’t always going to be able to get the exact color you want but you can get something similar.  Now, when it comes to brushes, I usually like to have a 1-inch flat brush, round brush and liner brush.  The craftsmart brand works well for this.

Remember, do your paint party shopping around a holiday and keep an eye out for sales. It’s the best way to get your supplies for a good price. I like Michaels Arts & Crafts but Hobby Lobby is a great place to get supplies too! If you need tablecloths the Dollar Store is the perfect place.
