I had to paint a Sunflower Porch Sign for an upcoming paint party and I thought “Why not film it!”. And, that means I get to share it with you!! It’s kind of similar to the Porch Leaner we painted in the Flower Fest. Just with Sunflowers.
Now, I did this really quickly but you can take your time.
Step 1 – Paint the Background of Your Sunflower Porch Sign
The background uses three colors: Sunny Day, Primary Yellow, and Spiced Pumpkin. Just put some of each color on your board and using a chip brush dipped in little bit of water start spreading the paint on the porch sign. This will create a sort of yellow to orange ombre effect.
Tip: If you want to move quickly to the next step you can use a hair dryer or heat gun to quickly dry the paint. However, this is not necessary for a paint party!
Step 2 – Paint the Sunflowers
We are just going to put about 3 – 4 sunflowers on this board. You will want to start with the center of the Sunflower. Using Burnt Umber start at the top corner with just a half moon shape and fill it in. Do the same in the bottom right and then you can add a, kind of, sideways one closer to the top right of the board. Lastly, you’ll want a sunflower where the “O” will be.
Next up, the petals. You can use the darker yellow for the petals at the top of the board and then the lighter yellow for the petals at the bottom.
Tip: Use your Welcome stencil to help find the “O” placement for the last sunflower.
Step 3 – Add Some Details to Your Sunflower Porch Sign
Now I just added a few details because I was painting this really quickly, I may go back and a few more. Using the Burnt Umber, you can outline your sunflower petals to really make them stand out! Then take some black paint and add some details to the center of each sunflower.
Step 4 – Stencil Welcome
Place your Welcome stencil on the board and then using Black paint and a stencil brush to add the wording. Don’t forget to offload your stencil brush. If you would like this Welcome stencil, you can get it at Essential Stencils. Just make sure you use coupon code TEXASHEIDI for a discount! Essential Stencils has my favorite stencils!!
Tip: If I’m using stencils at a paint party, I make sure I have 1 for every 3 people.
Now again, I did this one really fast and will be adding details later, so don’t be afraid to add some details to yours! This was such a fun porch leaner to paint. I hope you enjoy painting it too!!
If you are a paint party person, I highly recommend getting more than one of these Welcome stencils for your paint parties. You can get them HERE. And remember, use coupon code TEXASHEIDI at checkout for a discount.
