7 Winter Art Projects to Try
Believe it or not, the holiday season is upon us! While I LOVE gift giving, my favorite part of the holidays is making fun and festive winter art projects and decking the halls with my creations. You can do it, too! Here are some winter art ideas you can get started with today.
1. Winter Art Gnome Painting
Before I even started on this super cute gnome painting, I had the perfect spot for it in mind: the fireplace mantel next to our tree. What’s even better about this sweet little painting is that it can stay up throughout the winter – there’s no Christmas-specific theme here. In my post, there’s a step-by-step video, supply list and tracer, so you’ll have everything you need to channel your own inner artist by creating your own gnome painting!
2. Easy Backdrop for Christmas Mantle
This backdrop is such a quick and easy way to jazz up your mantle for the holidays! Simply choose a color scheme and get going. Since I was planning to place a ton of colorful Christmas decorations in front of it, I chose a gray and green theme that’s subdued and also feels 100% winter. If you want, play the video in the post and we can paint together!
3. DIY Merry Christmas Porch Sign
This fan favorite DIY merry Christmas porch sign is sure to catch anyone’s eye at over six feet tall! If you are looking for an easy, high-impact decor piece for your front porch, look no further. This sign will spread cheer to your entire neighborhood right from your front porch.
4. Birch Tree Snowman on Canvas
I love this unique snowman design. Best of all, you can paint this freehand! Using thick, wrapped canvas is an easy way to make your projects look extra elegant. Pro tip: choose your own color scheme to match all of your home decor and Christmas decorations.
5. Ceramic Trees (Great for Paint Parties!)
These ceramic Christmas trees are PERFECT for your winter decor! In this post, I’ll share with you the art supplies and paint you’ll need to make one of these vintage pieces. They also make a great seasonal project to make with your friends and family, whether in person or on Zoom!
6. Ceramic Truck and Tree
If you love painting ceramics, this one will pack even more of a nostalgic punch. How sweet is this rustic vintage truck carrying a Christmas tree in the bed? In this tutorial, I’ll teach you everything you need to make one of these sweet pieces of your own. It also makes a wonderful Christmas gift!
7. Christmas Truck Door Hanger
This Welcome Truck Door Hanger is sooo versatile, because you can make interchangeable pieces to switch out with the seasons! For winter, you can make a snowman or Christmas tree to pop into the truck bed. Here’s a tutorial on how to make one of your own (spoiler alert: it’s super quick and easy)!

Hi Heidi,
These are wonderful, thank you so much for sending! Im just dipping my toes into painting again. At this point its only for my own personal pleasure & family members. Not sure if I want to open a business again, but I sure am enjoying your projects for now!
Happy New Year.

Thanks for watching!
It makes me so happy when I watch your lives or videos
Thanks so much for watching!
Theses are beautiful but if you use two or three planks to do a snowman standup sign, how do you get the boards to stay together especially if you are doing a reversible sign?
I create my double sided signs on a solid piece of white pine. I will buy the 6′ boards from the hardware store. For the pallet boards, I will only make those one sided, because there is a brace in the back holding it all together.
I love to watch your videos and try to paint them, as I said I have to draw them first. I just started trying to paint this year. I retired and was bored lol.
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching!
